We are very lucky to have so much on our doorstep, Castle trail - Fyvie Castle, Castle Fraser various other local castles, Pittodrie House, Thainstone house, along with whisky trails and local distilleries.
The wildlife and the scenery are second to none, the local walks direct from the property, or the local villages, Kemnay which has Fetternear Estates where the Bishops Palace and the St Ninians church dating as far back as the 11th century, walks along the River Don to the Shakin Briggie. There's Monymusk Pictish village which dates from the 12th century but evidence show that dates from the 9th century, local restaurant & Tea room and the Clyan woods & Lake Walk. There's Pitmachie walks and bike trails White Stone Lane, Aquhorthies Stone Circle, then Bennachie and her 7 sisters, Oxencraig which can be accessed from Oyne, Milestone hill which can be accessed from the Lords Throat, Beautiful river walk & Drive and the flat stones where you can swim. The walking is extensive round the area and its a haven for artists & photographers, and people who just want some peace and quiet and enjoy the scenery. Alford is a short drive and this has the Transport Museum and Haughton Park which is a beautiful walk and again eating places, Strathdon is not far and it has an amazing Kildrummy castle and Kildrummy Inn which is exceptional.
If you wished to travel 20 miles or so you have the stunning coastlines of Newburgh Nature reserve along with Balmedie, Collistone beach and quaint fishing villages scattered along the North East Coast.
Chapel of Garioch itself has a very well known and loved Tearoom situated in the old Post office just yards from the cottage and serves food & homemade baking made by the local farmers wife's, and the welcome basket that you will receive on arrival will be supplied by The Tea Room.

Location
Chapel of Garioch is a lovely place to stay with superb walks practically on your doorstep! A Pictish standing stone less than a mile away is an example of all the places of interest you will see on your walks. The North East of Scotland has been known as the castle country and there are dozens of ruined and complete castles for you to visit. Aberdeenshire also boasts some of the most beautiful coastal scenery – less than an hour drive away. And on rainy days, you can always go and visit the distilleries!
